Crain Design Works

I've always been the guy who takes something apart just to see why it's broken — and then can't stop thinking about how it should've been built in the first place.

That instinct followed me into years as a mechanic. Same parts failing the same way, tools that almost did the job, fixes that shouldn't have had to be fixes. Somewhere in there, I stopped just repairing things and started redesigning them.

That's what brought me back to school. I'm studying mechanical engineering at Utah State University now — putting real technical weight behind problem-solving I'd already been doing by hand for years.

I still build things on the side that put that problem-solving to work — custom clips for a snowmobile, a linkage system for a manual transmission, a box screen setup that raises and lowers a windshield. Small projects, but each one started the same way: something didn't work right, so I made something that did.

The goal now is bigger: designing products for people and businesses who need something built by someone who'll actually use it, not just spec it on paper.

No inflated pricing. No overcomplicated process. Just good design — and someone who'll answer the phone.

Long term, I want Crain Design Works to grow into a team of designers and engineers, building real projects together — not just mine.
